Casa Alba is a Menorcan farmhouse of 1798, restored in 2012, standing on 120 hectares of its own land in the Binigaus valley, in the municipality of Es Migjorn Gran on the southern side of Menorca. The valley runs from the village down to the coast, and the house looks along it towards the sea. It sleeps up to 18 guests in eight bedrooms.
The eight bedrooms are a mix of double and twin rooms spread through the house. The living space is generous rather than open-plan: a library, a television room and more than one sitting room, so a large party can gather in one place or scatter into several.
The pool sits on a raised teak deck with the valley below it and the sea beyond, screened by old pines. Beside it the pool house holds a built-in barbecue, a refrigerator and outdoor seating, which is where a house this size tends to eat in summer.

Es Migjorn Gran, the village at the head of the Binigaus valley, in the central south of Menorca.
Es Migjorn Gran is one of the newest municipalities on Menorca: a rural settlement that grew through the eighteenth century and only became independent in 1989. With fewer than two thousand residents and no place on the main road between Maó and Ciutadella, it stays quieter than the towns along that route.
The Binigaus ravine begins at the edge of the village and reaches the sea in about forty-five minutes on foot. Halfway down it opens into the Cova des Coloms, known locally as the cathedral, a cave twenty-five metres high and a hundred and ten metres long that served as a burial site in the Talayotic period and is listed as a cultural asset. The Talayotic settlements of Binicodrell de Dalt and Sant Agustí lie close by.
At the foot of the valley is Platja de Binigaus, a long open beach on the south coast, with the resort of Sant Tomàs beside it. The estate sits inland of all this, in the centre of Menorca, which keeps it private without putting the coast out of reach.
